Taika Marttinen

Hi! I’m Taika, a photography and English literary student in my twenties from Helsinki. Originally my family and relatives come from eastern Finland and Karelia. In photography as a medium, I am especially fascinated by the materiality of it, and the intertwined layers with other forms of art. The possibility for documentary work also interests me. Most often I create and analyze my work with narratives, aiming to knit together the way of using the photograph as a format for saving and capturing, as well as a visual artistic expression. I look up to my grandpa, Martti “Mara”, who has captured and archived for decades the daydreams and naps, Christmases, hugs, haircuts, and morning coffees of our family.
